new piece
Today, I finally finished the piece I started a couple weeks ago. I am so happy with the outcome and cannot wait to include it in the art show next Saturday. I'm starting another canvas with a similar style. Hopefully it comes out well :) It is India Ink with acrylic ink.

black lips: live at velvet jones!
This past Friday was the incredible Black Lips show at Velvet Jones. I saw them in Hollywood a few years ago and I thought that was amazing, but the show on Friday beats it by far. My friends and I were right up in the front and dancing and singing like crazy. They got the whole crowd involved and everyone was having a great time. They played all my favorite songs including "Oh Katrina!" and "Dirty Hands."

check out this artist!
Check out this artist! His name is Robin Eleny and he is a Westmont Alum who specializes in oil paintings. His paintings are amazing! They are so realistic and beautiful, you might need to do a double take. I love his use of objects that normally would not used, such as plastic wrap, bubble wrap, and aluminum foil. He is extremely talented and I am bummed I will not be able to make it to his talk tomorrow.
Here are some of my favorite pieces (they are ALL paintings):

craft time! part 1
Craft time was last night! During this obnoxious finals week, I decided to edit the shorts I got for the Johnny Cash Festival. They were so plain with the black buttons and I didn't like how they were in the middle. So, decided to change it up and add white buttons with small gold trim. I think the shorts editing went well and I am super happy with the outcome.
I also made hair clips from my red and white roses, adding clips, felt, leaves etc. They came out very well too and will stay in hair much better than before with bobby pins.
Last thing to finish is the red top, It looks like this right now but I want to make it a halter or have crossed straps in the back. Maybe add a skinny red belt? Not sure exactly what to do but will figure it out soon.

And paired with leopard peep toe heels and a black cardigan, I think this outfits a win for the festival :)

graphics and logos I like
Over the past few weeks, I have seen many different graphics that I find both inspiring and visually pleasing. There is a new show on ABC called "Happy Endings" and the opening credits and logo is great. The font looks somewhat handwritten and goes well with the actual t.v. show. I like the color choices of blue and white, and the use of drawn lines under the text during the credits. The font is simple, cute, and not perfect which is exactly what the show is. In my publication design class, we learned about the importance of a font in business, television, books, etc. and how it should describe the business, television show, book, etc.
I really like the Modern Family logo for the television show also on ABC. The design team that decided to use two different fonts for the main logo was very successful. The pairing of a plain, sans-serif modern looking font used for the word "modern" and a more vintage classic serif font for the "family" describes the show very well. I also like the color choice of black and orange, the use of red or green just would not work as well. Orange is quirky and fun, similar to the show.
In terms of clothing design, I am completely in love with the company "Iron Fist." It is a clothing company that has a great style. Their graphics are similar to the style that I have and like. It has an old, vintage tattoo feel, with hints of horror movie-rock'n'roll-punk. I love this logo, their main logo in use because it is simple and effective. It shows their style completely and is very classic.
They have many more, but here are some of my favorite.
This logo is also very strong. I love the skull and roses on each side because it really completes the graphic. The font is amazing with a 3D affect, slight gradient, and curves throughout.

This logo is also very strong too. It has a complete tattoo feel, with fonts used in tattoos and cross at bottom to finish the logo. I like the drop shadow added as well.

Another company I like is "Lucky 13." They have some great designers that create some awesome graphics. Some are not my style, but some are completely what I love. They also have the vintage tattoo feel with use of pin up girls, horror films, and rockabilly music influences.
I love this graphic! The font has the old tattoo feel, with red and black gradient (which is my favorite) with roses, swirls, crown, stars, and color scheme. The is one of my favorite because it is a hand written font, not plain and with a feeling like it's been used a lot before.

I also love the Bettie Page brand. They have the BEST dresses ever, I just wish they weren't so expensive. Their graphics are great because they stay true to Bettie Page and the time period. The graphic of her face is perfect, with a simple use of black and white, and added color in the hearts in the name. A green stripe with leopard background helps with the overall graphic.

I wish I could pay more attention in Astronomy class haha but I'm a font/graphic nerd and love to look up new and interesting pieces.

new creation
Sooooo this compressed school session is getting to be very stressful and busy. I feel like I haven't done anything close to creative besides drawing some silly sketches and finishing up some stencils.
But, I went to the craft store with my sister and mom and got some great art supplies. I got some canvases, feathers (for hair clips), clear jars, etc. Last night, I began an ink project that will hopefully be an artistic outlet. It's a picture by my amazing friend Bre of my legs on my friend's car. I am using India Ink and a fountain pen (calligraphy/dip in ink pen like in the old days). I am going for a finished look like there are 5 pictures overlapping each other (so that's why they look crooked) and will have white borders on them.
I'll put up some pictures to show the process, I hope it comes out well :)
