Jenny Newton Design: first thursday

I went to First Thursday for the first time in a while on Cinco de Mayo. First Thursdays are the first Thursday of every month, downtown opens up all the galleries and shops feature artists but it is all free to the public. It's a great day to explore the arts in this area, with music performances all over State Street and free exhibits. My favorite opening was at the gorgeous Granada Theatre and titled "Zombies." The paintings were very cool and I loved the use of only red, white, and black in some of the pieces.

These paintings were really awesome upclose, with the messy paint strokes and lots of textures. They were all so different but worked well together in the show. The artists' style is unique and I hope to see more of her art work. You all should go out and experience First Thursdays sometime in the future. They are especially fun in the summer because it is so pretty out and the weather's nice.
